It will become one of the most beautiful museums in the world
, with a facade replaced by a large transparent window that will offer a spectacular view of the sea and
the largest salt pan in Europe
, located in Puglia.
The warehouse for the sophistication of the salts
of Margherita di Savoia, designed by the famous architect
Pier Luigi Nervi
, is at the center of a redevelopment and refurbishment project full of charm and elegance that aims at the conservative recovery of the original structure with some variations as a possible transparent floor on an expanse of salt.
Located opposite the first industrial warehouses built in the early 1900s, the structure consists of a longitudinal 'single nave', with thirteen paraboloidal arched bays, and a technical tower.
It dates back to 1936
with an extension for production needs, with the addition of six new spans, built in 1954. It is a rare
find of industrial archeology in Southern Italy
. From the report by Professor Antonio Riondino, the intention emerges to restore the original structure with structural consolidation and to celebrate its historical value with an exhibition activity inside it. The idea is to create an international museum of salt and contemporary art. Through the introduction of non-invasive elements such as semi-transparent panels it will also be possible to host educational activities, audio-visual laboratories and a permanent observatory.
The environmental setting is the unique one of Margherita di Savoia. The municipality, recently passed from the province of Foggia to Bat (Barletta-Andria-Trani), boasts a unique landscape with the reflections of the water in the wetland of the salt pans in which thousands of specimens of
pink flamingos
are reflected
, the famous
spas
with muds and salsobromoiodic waters, mountains of salt that seem snow-capped, spacious beaches also suitable for children and the disabled, with a blue sea that has won the
blue flag
for the eighth consecutive year. Among the particularities also the vegetables that grow in the beaches with the typical plantations of
white onion
sown and hand-picked from the sand.
The new Nervi museum will become, we can bet, an unmissable stop on the tours in the
places of Imperial Puglia, from Barletta to Trani to Castel del Monte
, which is the most visited monument in Puglia. The museum structure will be able to attract the attention of tourists and scholars from all over the world who appreciate the architect Nervi for his works, first of all the famous
Aula Paolo VI in the Vatican known as Sala Nervi.
