New York police arrested a suspect in connection with the death of US actress Lisa Banes on Thursday.
The 26-year-old was accused of fatally injuring Banes in a traffic accident for which he was responsible and then having committed a hit-and-run, said a police spokesman for the AFP news agency.
Banes, known among other things from the thriller »Gone Girl«, was hit by an electric scooter or motorcycle while crossing a street in the New York borough of Manhattan at the beginning of June.
The driver allegedly ran over a red light.
The 65-year-old actress sustained severe head injuries and died in hospital ten days later.
Banes' wife Kathryn Kranhold appealed to possible witnesses to come forward after the accident.
According to the police, it is still not clear whether the person who caused the accident was driving an electric scooter or a motorcycle.
Banes, who lived in Los Angeles, was known from numerous films and series.
In 1988 she starred in the comedy "Cocktail" opposite Tom Cruise.
She also took part in the internationally successful psychological thriller "Gone Girl - The Perfect Victim" (2014).
In addition, Banes was seen in popular series such as "Six Feet Under".
She also appeared on Broadway in New York.
