Suspect arrested after Lisa Banes died in New York traffic accident

The individual had been wanted since he fled on his two-wheeler after knocking down the American actress last month.


A 26-year-old man was arrested Thursday and charged with refusing to give way to a pedestrian and hit and run after a fatal accident, a New York police spokesperson told AFP.

The individual is accused of being responsible for the traffic accident that killed American actress Lisa Banes in Manhattan in June, police said on Friday.

Lisa Banes, 65, who was visiting New York City on June 4, had suffered a head injury as a result of the crash caused by a two-wheeler. The actress had been struck by the vehicle which had run a red light as she had entered to cross the street. She died ten days later from her injuries. The accident had taken place near the Lincoln Center cultural center, in the Upper West Side neighborhood of Manhattan, while the actress was on her way to the Juilliard School where she was expected. While she was fighting for her survival in the hospital, his wife, Kathryn Kranhold had appealed for witnesses in the newspaper
