Will summer get going again after cool and wet days?

The German Weather Service (DWD) sees no signs of this.

At the beginning of the coming week, the DWD only expects a cool 18 to 24 degrees.

"Heat over 30 degrees is a long way off and even the 25-degree mark - definition for a summer day - is only just exceeded in some areas in the east," said a DWD meteorologist from the dpa news agency.

Because a constant summer high is »still not in sight«.

The dog days (July 23 to August 23) are statistically the hottest days of the year in Germany.

"The greatest likelihood of major heat waves falls during this period," said the meteorologist.

Showers and thunderstorms on the weekend

According to the DWD, the weather remains mixed on the weekend.

On

Saturday

, many clouds are expected across Germany, northwest of a line from the Hunsrück to Western Pomerania, there may be showers and thunderstorms, which can be storm-like locally.

In the south it also rains, the maximum values are between 19 degrees in the Eifel and up to 27 degrees in Lusatia and southeastern Bavaria.

On

Sunday

, more showers and heavy thunderstorms are expected in the south and east of Bavaria, in some cases more shower-like, in the north and northwest.

It gets sunny especially in the southwest to central Germany.

Daily highs between 18 degrees in the Eifel and 25 degrees in Niederlausitz.

The weather trend of the past few weeks continues: In the north, west, center and south of Germany, according to the DWD, there was not a single hot day with temperatures above 30 degrees in most places throughout July and even at the beginning of August.

Only in the east there were three days in a row with maximum values of 30 degrees.

Short rise in temperature is only possible at the end of next week

Although the so-called medium-term forecast of the DWD next Thursday predicts temperatures of 25 to 30 degrees across the country - it will already go downhill again on Friday.

However, it is not yet certain whether midsummer will be completely canceled this year.

That is currently "still in the area of the crystal ball," it says from the DWD.
