In the world of work, Covid has mainly affected self-employed workers
. Between February 2020, the month preceding the advent of the pandemic crisis, and June of this year, Italy lost 470 thousand employees. Of these, 378 thousand (equal to over 80% of the total) are self-employed. This was underlined by the Studies Office of the CGIA, the Confederation of Crafts.
In these 16 months, the total number of VAT numbers present in Italy has decreased on average by 776 units per day. To have suffered the most negative effects from the crisis triggered by the pandemic were mainly small traders, merchants, collaborators and many freelancers. Among the employees, however, the total number of employees fell by 92 thousand units.
"If eight out of ten people who have lost their jobs in this historical period belong to the so-called 'people of VAT numbers', it is not clear why - observe the Artisans of Mestre - a particular attention has not yet emerged capable of involving the public opinion and politics on this social and economic drama ".

Dramas that no one was able to tell, broken working lives which, it seems, have no dignity, not even that of being told ".
"The hope - concludes the CGIA of Mestre - is that these data will induce both Prime Minister Draghi and the governors to open a permanent crisis table at the national and regional level, otherwise the world of self-employment risks coming out of this greatly downsized crisis" .
