According to a special police unit, a ton of cocaine has been confiscated in the South African port city of Durban.
The drugs with a street value of the equivalent of 29 million euros were found in a shipping container with truck parts from VW-owned vehicle manufacturer Scania, the Hawks police unit said on Sunday.
Initial investigations indicated that the cocaine should be secretly removed from the container and the container seal should be replaced with a copy.
The search for the perpetrators is still ongoing, it said.
The police assume that the drug discovery is related to a seizure of 715 kilos of cocaine in the economic metropolis of Johannesburg in July, during which the drugs were also camouflaged in a Scania container.
It was said that the origin of the drugs was the Brazilian port in Santos at the time.
According to police, more than four tons of cocaine have been seized in South Africa since March.
The majority of the drugs were intended for other countries, while around 20 percent of the drugs were intended as payment to smugglers and for consumption within South Africa, according to the police.
