(ANSA) - PESARO, 09 AUG - "Elizabeth, Queen of England" is the third title on the calendar at the Rossini Opera Festival 2021, premiered at the Vitrifrigo Arena on 11 August and previewed to the press, but for the director Davide Livermore it could be quietly The Crown. With the scenes of GiòForma, the costumes of Gianluca Falaschi, the lights of Nicolas Boveye and the videodesign of D-Wok, he has created a show that draws the eye abundantly to the famous TV series: the protagonist appears on stage with the iconic hairstyle of brown hair, surmounted by a sparkling diamond crown, 1950s-style gala dresses, with sash, decorations and jewels. But the films The King's Speech and The Queen are also mentioned.

Quotes and re-elaborations, however, are part of the history of this masterpiece which marked the beginning of Rossini's Neapolitan career in 1815, with the ambition of having succeeded also in the serious genre. The story, based on a libretto by Giovanni Schmidt, based on a theatrical play, itself derived from a historical novel, revolves around the unhappy love of the queen for the Earl of Leicester, secretly married to Matilde, daughter of the decapitated Maria Stuarda. Everything complicated by the plots of the envious Norfolc and the final decision of the sovereign to give up love to devote herself to her royal duties.

From the musical point of view, Rossini drew on his most successful previous works and then reused ideas and themes in later works: for example the symphony, taken from Aureliano in Palmira (1813) and later in the Barbiere diSiviglia (1816). A kind of remix work, conceived by blocks of pieces of skill entrusted to a cast composed of Karine Deshayes (Elisabetta), Sergey Romanovsky, Salome Jicia, Marta Pluda, Barry Banks and Valentino Buzza. Evelino Pidò directed the Rai National Symphony Orchestra and the chorus of the Ventidio Basso Theater. Reruns on 14, 17 and 21 August. (HANDLE).
