"Respect for the rules is important". Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese said this in Turin, responding to journalists on the No Green pass protests. The minister did not rule out "random checks in the premises together with the administrative police". However, he reiterated that the owners will have to provide, even if "they will not be able to ask customers for an identity card".
"We cannot think - he explained - that the control activity is carried out by the police forces. It would mean diverting them from their priority task which is to guarantee security. A circular is being prepared in this regard".
During a live broadcast on the website of the newspaper La Stampa, the minister specified that going to the restaurant with the green pass "is like going to the cinema and showing the ticket". And he reiterates that restaurateurs and shopkeepers "certainly are not required to ask for an identity card and we will issue a circular as Viminale to explain that they are not required to do so. Nobody expects shopkeepers to ask for documents, restaurateurs must not be policemen" .
