After the first week of August, it is confirmed that the Government began to comply with its plan to accelerate the second doses due to the fear generated by the
community circulation
of the Delta variant.
This is reflected in the daily vaccination figures.
The good news is that the number of people who already have the complete schematics is
growing rapidly.
At the same time, what
Clarín
advanced last week
is consolidated
: the foreseeable brake on vaccination with first doses. Something that in principle would not be so worrying if it were not for the bad news that accompanies it: despite the fact that the health context requires that the engine of the applications be more fine-tuned than ever,
the daily rate
of vaccination
dropped
.
Of the
276,050 daily doses
that were applied on average during the last five days,
215,831
have been second doses.
This is
78 percent
, almost eight out of ten.
At the same time, the general rate of vaccination has fallen - according to the average of the last seven days -
13 percent
compared to the level it sustained in the second half of July.
The application of second doses accelerated from the moment it was confirmed that the
Moderna and AstraZeneca
vaccines
could be used as supplements to the first component of the Sputnik V vaccine. In the last five days,
6 out of 10 people
who had been carrying more than 4 months of waiting with a dose of the Russian vaccine.
The greatest willingness to hit the accelerator for second doses came from the
3.5 million Moderna vaccines
donated by US President Joe Biden.
The Argentine Government allocated a part to minors with comorbidities and the rest to
fill
the long-underestimated pothole
left by Vladimir Putin's broken promises.

Given the existing stock, the number of second doses applied per day should continue to increase if the objective is to comply with
what was announced
last week by President Alberto Fernández: inoculate
more than
7 million people
with second doses during August.
At the current rate, it would reach just over 6 million by the end of the month.
It is estimated that this amount could cover the
complete
vaccination schedules of at least 60 percent of those over 50 years of age.
Being able to equate all the first doses with the second ones, on the other hand, will take much more time if the
uneven rhythm
of the applications
cannot be increased
.
Stock of vaccines is not lacking
: according to the latest data from the Public Vaccination Monitor, there are
6 million vaccines
that have already been distributed in the provinces and have not been applied.
In the province of Buenos Aires they have not only failed to reduce their own stock, but it has increased: today it is
2.4 million doses.
In the City there are only
55 thousand vaccines
to apply, an amount that would be exhausted in
a day and a half
.
La Pampa continues to be the province with the highest efficiency: not only is it up to date, but it is once again showing a
greater number of vaccines applied than received
, as a result of taking advantage of the extra doses that allow the vials to be extracted.
The good results obtained by the vaccine combination trials have taken the weight off the Government of the
main social claim
of the last months of the pandemic: the people who waited without an answer for the second doses of Sputnik V. But at the same time that solution added a pressure: to accelerate or not to accelerate full vaccination schedules
no longer depends on Russia
.

For the remainder of this month, the Government awaits the arrival of
more doses of AstraZeneca
, which are for now the other possible patch to correct the deficit of Sputnik V. The arrival of batches of the Oxford vaccine has stopped in the
9 , 9 million doses
: there are more than 12 million to come.
The Russian Fund for Direct Investment, for its part, promised again that it would
finally
regularize
its deliveries
of component 2 between August and September.
It was in a timely newsletter released on Thursday, the same day that Argentina announced "to the world" that they would supplant Sputnik by Moderna.
Later, both countries released a statement in which they assured that they would continue "working together."
More second doses of the Russian vaccine owed
will be added in the coming weeks
, which must be covered as much with what the Gamaleya Institute or other laboratories hired to scale manufacturing can produce.
To this will be added what the Argentine laboratory Richmond can contribute, which formulates and packages the active principle that arrives from Moscow.
The
"Sputnik debt"
has grown in Argentina to accumulate a total shortfall of
6.9 million second doses
, so what has been covered up to now is only 14 percent of that magnitude.
In any case, the brand-new immune versatility of available vaccines means that the horizon now looks less cloudy.
