(ANSA) - ISLAMABAD, 09 AUG - The eight-year-old child with mental problems accused of blasphemy in Pakistan risks the death penalty, the youngest to whom this controversial crime has ever been charged, returned to protective custody after the many threats against him Muslim community.
The child, from a Hindu family, was arrested on 4 August after being caught urinating in the library of a Muslim madrasa in the city of Rahim YarKhan, Punjab. An angry mob then destroyed a Hindu temple by storm. Prime Minister Imran Khan attempted to calm people by condemning the gesture and pledging to repair the temple.
The child had been released on bail but the charges against him did not fall and the threats addressed to him led the police to detain him again in protective custody. (HANDLE).
