According to media reports, the police in Italy have seized a threatening letter addressed to Pope Francis.
The envelope with three pistol bullets was intercepted during sorting work in a mail distribution center in Peschiera Borromeo near Milan, reported the daily newspaper "Corriere della Sera".
Accordingly, it also contained a letter relating to financial transactions in the Vatican.
Only recently have more and more appalling details about the Vatican's financial scandal come to light in the course of the criminal proceedings against Cardinal Angelo Becciu.
He is one of a group of suspects who are accused of abuse of office, money laundering, fraud, embezzlement and corruption related to investing in a luxury London property.
Sent in France?
It is unclear whether the letter alludes to this.
The Italian newspaper "La Stampa" reported that the envelope was franked in French.
It was said to be hard to read and did not name the sender.
According to media reports, the public prosecutor's office has started an investigation.
An official confirmation of the find is still pending.
