ISRAEL - Over six thousand Covid infections were recorded yesterday in Israel, in what represents a negative record since February. The positivity rate has risen to 4.84 per cent and there are about 400 serious cases. The total number of deaths is now 6,599, of which 82 since the beginning of August. This was announced by the ministry of health.

Cited by the media, the coordinator of the fight against the pandemic Salman Zarka called these data "alarming". "We have reached a critical point for all of us: for our health, for our life and for the economy," he added.

Zarka has renewed the appeal to be vaccinated to those who have not yet been immunized. As it turns out, over a million Israelis who could get vaccinated have so far ignored the government's increasingly pressing appeals. Meanwhile, the administration of the third dose of Pfizer vaccine to the 'Over 60' who received the first two doses over five months ago continues with enthusiasm. Their total number has now risen to 580,000. Premier Bennett has asked the health insurance funds to strive to reach the figure of 900,000 vaccinations by the end of this week.

INDIA - The country has registered 28,204 new cases of Covid in the last 24 hours, the lowest number since March 16, according to data from the Ministry of Health cited by the Guardian. The total number of infections reached 32 million, while the victims rose to 428,682 as another 373 people died in the last 24 hours.

CARIBBEAN - Dizzying incidence rate, explosion of cases in Guadeloupe, rigid lockdown in Martinique. The health situation linked to the coronavirus is becoming increasingly alarming in the French Antilles and the minister responsible for the overseas territories, Sébastien Lecornu, today begins a "crisis mission" on the spot. Martinique went from 410 cases on 6 July to 4,171 in the first week of August, with 35 deaths. In four weeks, 350 people were hospitalized. Even in neighboring Guadeloupe, already subject to lockdown measures, even if less rigid than those of Martinique, the data exploded: from 2 to 8 August the incidence rate reached 1,769 per 100,000 inhabitants against 876 the previous week and 6669 cases, of which about 2,500 in the last weekend alone.Fourteen people died in this same period with the Delta variant representing 88% of infections. As in the Antilles, vaccination coverage in Guadeloupe is much weaker than in mainland France. Less than 20% of the inhabitants received two doses of the vaccine. As if that were not enough, also for Guadeloupe and Martinique, Météo France announces the risk of a tropical storm. Lecornu will begin his "crisis mission" from the hospital of Pointe-à-Pitre. French Polynesia also announced the reintroduction of the curfew starting tomorrow.Less than 20% of the inhabitants received two doses of the vaccine. CHINA - In mainland China, 143 new cases of Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which 108 transmitted locally and 35 imported. This is the highest number since January 20. The most affected province is Jiangsu with 50 new cases. This was announced today by the National Health Commission in the usual daily bulletin. Yesterday 2 suspected cases were also recorded and 38 new asymptomatic patients emerged, which local authorities usually report in separate counts.

FRENCH POLYNESIA - The other commissioner in charge of French Polynesia, Dominique Sorain, announced the reintroduction of the curfew from 21:00 to 4:00 in the morning on the whole territory starting from tomorrow. French Polynesia is currently undergoing a new coronavirus surge. Sorain does not rule out extending the curfew hours "very quickly", if not redefining Polynesia, which has already been subjected to new anti-virus restrictions since mid-July. "On July 16 we had an incidence rate of less than 10, today we are more than 1,000", the manager deplored, speaking to TNTV microphones. After months of weak spread of the virus, the epidemic began to grow again in early August.
