Google plans to build another campus in Silicon Valley, which will include a new center dedicated to the group's hardware products, smartphones and connected home accessories.
According to CNBC, the company part of Alphabet bought land in northern San Jose, California, spending more than $ 389 million.
Preliminary plans also show a building dedicated to research and development. The campus, codenamed Midpoint, will be located between Google's current headquarters in Mountain View and the mixed-use campus in San Jose. Midpoint will have five buildings, connected by a pedestrian bridge, and will be adjacent to three industrial buildings which, according to documents, will serve as hubs for various hardware division projects, including Nest devices. Apparently, the Midpoint site has been on Google's mind since 2018, with the pandemic slowing its actual implementation.
The goal to be achieved was clarified by the manager in charge of the company's hardware sector, Rick Osterloh, who said that Google is ready to conquer market share in sectors today dominated by other big names, such as Apple and Samsung. In the coming months, the company will officially present the Pixel 6, of which some particularities have already been disclosed, such as the presence of a Tensor processor with Titan M chip, for greater security to personal information stored in memory and exchanged on the network.
