Faced with an incidence rate exceeding 1,800 cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants and very strong hospital pressure, the Guadeloupe

A few hours after Emmanuel Macron's warning on Wednesday, faced with the "dramatic situation" of the epidemic in the West Indies, a new turn of the screw will take place.

The prefect of Guadeloupe is preparing to announce a new strict confinement on Wednesday evening, as BFMTV had announced.

The entourage of Sébastien Lecornu, the Minister of Overseas Ministers who is currently on site, thus confirms to the Parisian that the prefect will announce strict confinement in Guadeloupe this evening, after consultation with elected officials.

"When we have an incidence rate of 1800, with such a low vaccination rate, we cannot cope with the epidemic without going towards strict containment," explains the ministry.

This decision was looming in recent days, as the health situation had deteriorated with an incidence rate exceeding 1,800 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while only 17% of the population has a complete vaccination course.

“It makes sense that we are obviously going to have to tighten up the braking measures as there is such an emergency.

The main objective is to allow hospital structures to hold out, ”Sébastien Lecornu warned on Tuesday.

Faced with the outbreak of the epidemic, Guadeloupe had entered its third confinement since last week, with a strict curfew from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and travel restrictions.

The regional prefect had already decided to close all the restaurants.
