The women's draw of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati loses three protagonists. The sisters Serena Williams and Venus Williams, and Sofia Kenin have in fact announced that they will not participate, as stated on the tournament website.
"I will not be able to play next week as I am still recovering from my leg injury at Wimbledon. I hope to be back on the pitch very soon," explained Serena Williams, two-time WTA 1000 winner in Ohio. World number 4 Kenin also explained that her decision is linked to the "need for another week" to recover from a foot injury, hoping to be on the field at the US Open.
