Samsung launches the third generation of foldable phones and lowers prices.
The Korean company unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 models, a few weeks before the iPhone launch expected in the fall, and two and a half years after the presentation of its first leaflets that kicked off this novelty in the sector.
These devices will replace the Note line, the one with the stylus.
"Samsung intends once again to redefine the possibilities offered by foldable smartphones, which give users the flexibility and versatility they need to keep up with our busy lives," said TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics.
The Fold3 starts at a price tag of 1,849 euros, something less than the 2,050 euros of the previous model.
The Galaxy Z Flip3 instead has a starting cost of 1,099 euros, about 500 euros saved on the first version, which was also without 5G.
Here, however, support for the new generation standard is standard, as well as the possibility, only on the Fold3, to use a special version of the Samsung stylus, the S Pen, without fear of damaging the screen.
For the occasion, the company presented two: a classic and a S Pen Pro, with Bluetooth, which also works on the Galaxy Tab, Note and S21 Ultra, and allows you to perform remote operations, such as controlling the multimedia player and take pictures by pressing the button on the back. But there are many news for both. Again the Fold3 has an internal selfie cam, at the top right of the large 7.6-inch display, hidden under the glass, effectively invisible. Oppo unveiled something like this in early August, but only as a technology not yet applied to products for sale. The Z Flip3, which clamshells like the clamshells of the 2000s, has a larger portion of the external screen, useful for reading notifications, checking the time and performing basic operations on apps.
The two new folding ones benefit from a Gorilla Victus panel, which promises double the scratch resistance compared to the already excellent Gorilla 6. Available from 27 August, the smartphones are joined by the new Galaxy Watch4 in version with and without bezel, the first of the group without Tizen OS and with Android Wear operating system, and from the Buds2, the earphones with active noise cancellation and three microphones dedicated to calls.
