The efficacy of the Sputnik V vaccine against the Delta variant of the coronavirus was
83.1% against symptomatic infection
and 94.4% against hospitalizations.
This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Health, on the first anniversary of the registration of the inoculant developed by the Gamaleya Institute.
As reported by the developers of the Sptunik V on social networks, "this is the highest efficiency compared to the estimated
76% of Moderna and 42% of Pfizer
" for the Delta variant found for the first time in India and that is considered "of concern" by the World Health Organization (WHO) because it has been shown to be more contagious.
"The vaccine is 83.1% effective and shows a six-fold reduction in the risk of infection. Sputnik V is also 94.4% effective against hospitalizations with
an 18-fold reduction in the risk of hospitalization,
" noted the statement on the studies prepared by the Russian Ministry of Health.
The Gamaleya Center had carried out an investigation on the neutralizing activity of the sera of individuals vaccinated with Sputnik V against new variants of the coronavirus, the results of which were published in the medical journal

Sputnik V is also highly effective against Alpha, Beta, and Gamma variants.

and retains one of the best safety and efficacy parameters," he concluded.
The first anniversary
A year ago, President Vladimir Putin announced that his country had become the first to approve a vaccine against Covid-19.
The drug, which the president had assured was given to one of his daughters, had been in clinical trials for less than two months and had not yet passed phase 3 of trials.

, it forms a strong immunity and, I repeat, it has passed all the necessary controls," Putin had emphasized.
Currently, the Gamaleya Institute vaccine is licensed in 69 countries, with a population of more than 3.7 billion people.
The Russian Investment Fund also established production contracts with more than 20 companies in 14 countries, including Argentina through the Richmond laboratories.
