Covid-19 in France: 77 new deaths and nearly 900 hospital admissions in 24 hours

In France, the number of hospitalized patients continues to climb: they are now 9,465, including 894 new admissions recorded in 24 hours


"The health crisis is not behind us," the President of the Republic insisted on Wednesday at the opening of a Health Defense Council.

To contain the pandemic, the government spokesperson announced in the afternoon the implementation of several new measures: strict containment in Guadeloupe, a 3rd dose of vaccine from September for people at risk or a request. to the prefects of the departments where the incidence rate exceeds 200 per 100,000 inhabitants in order to make the health pass compulsory in shopping centers of more than 20,000 m2.

This Thursday, the latest figures from Public Health France show 9,465 patients hospitalized for a Covid-19 infection, against 9,233 yesterday and 8,210 last Thursday.

In the last 24 hours, 894 new admissions have been recorded against 773 on Wednesday and 712 seven days earlier.

232 new “Covid beds” are occupied on Thursday, taking into account the 566 patients who were able to return to their homes.

1,807 patients in critical care

This increase in hospital patients is accompanied by a sharp increase in patients admitted to critical care due to Covid-19.

This Thursday evening, 1,807 patients are suffering from a serious form of the disease which requires care in critical care, intensive care or continuous monitoring.

“Covid beds” more and more compared to the day before when these services already had 1,745 patients.

In all, 191 patients entered critical care on Thursday, compared to 158 on Wednesday and 150 a week ago.

In the past 24 hours, 77 patients with Covid-19 have died in hospital. The day before, there were 54 new deaths. The trend remains on the rise, since there were 52 deaths for the single day of last Thursday. However, the level remains well below previous peaks, nearly 300 or even 400 deaths per day at the height of the epidemic crisis. Nearly 112,517 people have died from Covid-19 infection since the start of the pandemic in France.
