(ANSAMed) - BEIRUT, AUGUST 12 - The Iraqi National Museum in Baghdad is preparing to reopen after the Iraqi authorities received about 17,000 artifacts and archaeological finds from the United States stolen over the past 18 years, including tablets from the epic of Gilgamesh in scriptureiform dating back to 3,500 years ago.
This was reported today by Iraqi media citing the Baghdad culture minister.
This issued a circular to the directorate of antiquities of the Iraqi capital after receiving a directive from Prime Minister Mustafa Kazemi.
Kazemi's recent visit to Washington made it possible for the ancient artifacts to return to Iraq, many of which were stolen from the 2003 Anglo-American invasion and subsequent armed conflicts in Iraq.
