Tourism on a drunk passenger who raged on a flight from Philadelphia to Miami and was glued to his seat, this time the situation seems to be getting even more extreme, as an autistic child, about 13 years old, was glued to his seat on a flight from the island of Mauai in Hawaii to Los Angeles.

The boy, who experienced a fit of rage or anxiety during the flight, was pinned to his seat by crew members of an American Airlines flight.

The Daily Mail reports that this chaotic and difficult scene was documented in a video of one of the passengers.

"Restraining the child for the safety of passengers"

"The crew took action to restrain the child for the safety of the passengers," the source said in detail.

During the attack, he first struggled with his mother, who suffers from a physical disability, who had difficulty coping with it.

During the incident, the boy's brother, whose age is unknown, experienced an anxiety attack himself, also went on a rampage and tried to break a window in the plane using kicks.

Due to the incident, the captain of the plane decided to land in Honolulu, Hawaii, and the passengers were directed to alternate flights.

Some were forced to stay overnight in the city.

"Safety is our top priority, and we apologize to our customers for the inconvenience this has caused," a company spokesman said.

The phenomenon of air rage is expanding

While this specific incident is not a representative case, due to the child’s disability, it is another example of the “air rage” phenomenon we have witnessed in recent times, as more and more flight passengers lose control, run amok, behave violently and are sometimes forcibly tied to their seats.

In June, the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that airlines had reported more than 3,000 incidents involving passengers who had used violence since the beginning of January.

About 76 percent of the reports were due to a refusal to wear masks during the flight.

The numbers this year are significantly higher than previous years, and in fact more than ever.

Many of these incidents have been documented in videos taken during the flights, and have gone viral on social media.

A recent study commissioned by the U.S. Air Force Crew Association found that 85 percent of flight attendants in the United States had to deal with rioting passengers.

Nearly one in five experienced physical violence in 2021. Most of the cases were related as mentioned to not wearing a mask, but also due to factors such as drunkenness, non-compliance with safety instructions, anger over cancellations or flight delays and more.

In addition, the study found that 71 percent of air crew members who complained of violence did not receive a satisfactory response from airline executives.

Did the airline act correctly?

  • Sure, the child endangered flight safety

  • Definately not!
