(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 12 - The vitality of immigrant entrepreneurs is recovering momentum and exceeding the pre-pandemic levels. Between January and June, the balance between new businesses opened in foreign markets and those that closed their doors recorded a positive balance of 16,197 units, significantly higher than in the corresponding period of 2020 - strongly influenced by the lockdown - but also in the first half of 2019, when the net increase of foreign companies was 10,205 units. This is what emerges from the photograph taken by Unioncamere and InfoCamere on the companies of foreigners registered in the Register of Companies of the Chambers of Commerce at 30 June 2021.

Overall - with a share now firmly established at 10.5% of the total number of registered enterprises - the phenomenon of foreign entrepreneurship represents a structurally significant part of the national entrepreneurial fabric. In Tuscany (14.4%), Liguria (14.3) and Lombardy (13) there are the highest concentrations on the total of existing companies, while Basilicata (3.9), Valle d'Aosta and Sicily (6.1) mark the least significant ones. In absolute value, the land of choice for foreign entrepreneurs is Lombardy, where 124,603 companies run by people outside national borders are based. Lazio (81,938) and Tuscany (58,937) follow at a distance.

Three out of four foreign firms (to be precise 484,888 firms, 75.8% of the total) operate in the simplest form of sole proprietorship, but a consistent number (105,298, 16.5%) has chosen the form of capital company. Retail trade (160,415 companies), specialized construction works (123,225) and catering (49,339) are the most practiced activities by foreign entrepreneurs in our country. (HANDLE).
