In North Rhine-Westphalia, the whole class will no longer necessarily have to be quarantined in the event of a corona case at a school.
School Minister Yvonne Gebauer (FDP) announced this with a view to the end of the summer holidays.
In principle, only people who are sitting next to you, i.e. people who have sat in front of, behind, to the right or left of the infected student, are sent into quarantine.
The same applies within the school for teachers and other school staff if they were in close contact with the pupil concerned, according to the Ministry of Education's website.
Fully vaccinated neighbors are generally excluded from the 14-day quarantine if they are without symptoms.
Further quarantines could be set by the health department, reports the WDR.
If those affected had contact with other students, they could also be sent to quarantine.
Support came from Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann (CDU): “With this uniform procedure, we are creating clarity in dealing with risk contacts.
This gives health authorities, school authorities, parents and pupils the security they need to start school. "
In North Rhine-Westphalia school starts on August 18th after the summer vacation.
From then on, the new regulation will also apply.
