Lidl only recently started selling cannabis products - but then the police came and now the discounter is rowing back.

That happened.

Neckarsulm - The discounter giant Lidl * always wants to offer its customers something - in addition to weekly specials, the discounter has also been in the car business * for some time and offers leasing vehicles.

Now the company, based in Neckarsulm, wanted to go one step further and make a new offer in the superfood sector and has added cannabis products to its range *.

“Hash brownies”, “cannabis energy drinks” and “cannabis cookies” should be found on Lidl's supermarket shelves.

To this end, the discounter had agreed a deal with the start-up The Green Dealers.

Lidl is said to have ordered around 1.5 million cannabis products for the branches there, reports focus.de.

All without tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or cannabidiol (CBD) - i.e. without intoxicating effects *, as the products were advertised in the Lidl brochure.

It was all about the hemp taste, it said there.

But now this decision is falling on the grocer's feet.

Because shortly after the start of sales on Monday (August 9th, 2021), officials of the LKA Bayern arrived and confiscated some of the hemp products in a branch in Rosenheim.

"Several articles were seized," a police spokesman then confirmed to the evening newspaper on Thursday (12.08.2021).

Unlike cannabis drugs, The Green Dealers' cookies, bars and drinks are said to contain no THC or CBD, as the company claims.

But the police apparently do not trust this promise.

The sweets and drinks were sent to a forensic laboratory after they were seized.

There it should now be checked whether they actually do not contain any prohibited ingredients.

It could take some time until a result is available, which is why Lidl has removed the cannabis products from its range for the time being.

We are working closely with the authorities, said Lidl on Friday (13.08.2021) at the request of the German Press Agency (dpa).

The discounter did not want to comment on the ongoing proceedings.

The police also confirm that it is currently a review and not a preliminary investigation. To trade in products containing CBD you need a license in Germany, the sale of products with a higher content of intoxicating THC is completely forbidden - that would then be a violation of the Narcotics Act.
