The hospitalization rate in the last 30 days for the unvaccinated was over seven times higher than for the full cycle vaccinated (52 versus 7 hospitalizations per 100,000 inhabitants).
The ISS integrated surveillance report on Covid monitoring on the Institute's Epicenter website indicates this
.
In the last week, the incidence of Covid infections among children in the 0-9 range has increased - the report still reveals - with an incidence slightly higher than 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants for the first time since the beginning of May. In line with what was observed in the previous week, the incidence in the 10-19 age group is 156 per 100,000 inhabitants, in the 20-29 age group it is 146 per 100,000 inhabitants and in the 30-39 and 40-49 age groups it is respectively equal to 79 and 56 per 100,000 inhabitants.
When vaccinations in the population reach high levels of coverage, the so-called paradox effect occurs which no longer represents the actual vaccination coverage: the absolute number of infections, hospitalizations and deaths can be similar between vaccinated and unvaccinated, of the progressive decrease in the number of the latter. The explanation of this phenomenon, useful for reading the numbers of the pandemic, is contained in the integrated surveillance report of the ISS published on the Epicentro website. Among the over 80, with 90% vaccination coverage, the number of hospitalizations among vaccinated with full cycle is equal to 294 and while in the unvaccinated it is slightly lower, equal to 220, but the group of unvaccinated in this age group 'is obviously much moresmall (10% of the total).
