(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 14 - Actress Piera DegliEsposti has died in Rome. She had been ill for some time and had been hospitalized from 1 June at the Santo Spirito hospital in Rome. Bolognese soul and universal talent, barefoot queen of the Italian scene between theater, cinema, television and literature, she had recently celebrated her magnificent 83 years. The beginnings in the avant-garde theater of the 60s then the classical and modern theater between Shakespearee Giraudoux, Gombrowicz and D'Annunzio. Almost simultaneously his talent landed on TV with Il Conte di Montecristo in 1966 directed by Edmo Fenoglio. In '67 the debut in the cinema. Since then his career has never stopped, divided between the stage and the set. He will appear in about fifty films, about twenty discenegged, he will be the protagonist in the theater for 50 good years and wherever he will bring a freshness, a smile,an absolutely unique professionalism. From the Taviani brothers to Pasolini from Lina Wertmuller to Tornatoree Bellocchio to Moretti and Sorrentino to love her and call her on the set. On TV how not to remember her in the role of the abbess of the "Promessi sposi" by Salvatore Nocita or in those of Clelia in "Tutti pazzi peramore" by Ivan Cotroneo. Even in the theater he loved the impossible.

In 1997 she began her artistic partnership with Dacia Maraini, her lifelong friend, who convinced her to write "Storia di Piera" together. The meeting of the two women, one meticulous analyst of the soul and the other a natural narrator who draws on the experience to transform it into a literary creation, produces an authentic editorial event. From book-scandal "Storia di Piera" it also becomes subject and script, with the complicity of Marco Ferreri who in 1983 makes it one of his most personal and intense films. The literary story will have two sequels: "Piera e gliassassini" again with Dacia Maraini in 2003 and "L'estate diPiera" (with Giampaolo Simi) just a year ago. Instead, its mellow and warm, immediately recognizable voice will accompany "The long life of Marianna Ucria"(the most famous novel by Maraini) in the beautiful reading of 2011. In recent years she has also been an appreciated opera director since PieroMascagni's "Lodoletta" and a memorable "Human Voice" by Francis Poulenc.
