A large fire last night, around 11 pm, developed in Forio d'Ischia due to causes under investigation: damage to houses and electrical and telephone substations but no injuries. The flames, which involved part of the island's mountain, affected an area of Mediterranean scrub and woodland of about 30 hectares. Some country houses, an electric and telephone booth were damaged and some gas cylinders exploded. The Carabinieri of the Forio Station, the Radiomobile Nucleus of the Company of Ischia, the Civil Protection and the Fire Brigade of Ischia intervened. No injuries. The fire was extinguished.
A forest fire, in progress from 1 pm, is affecting the Orbicciano locality, in the Municipality of Camaiore (Lucca). The flames are spreading rapidly in a mixed forest and 4 hectares have been burned so far. Three regional fire fighting helicopters are at work and a Canadair from Civil Protection is also on the way. At the moment there are no homes involved, but the risk of involvement of some inhabited hamlets is important. The regional operations room is sending numerous teams of forest firefighting volunteers, forestry workers and operations director to the area together with tankers for refueling vehicles and fire-fighting tanks.
