(ANSA) - ISTANBUL, AUGUST 14 - The work of rescuers fighting against time continues to find survivors of the floods in northern Turkey, while the death toll has risen to 44, according to a provisional toll.
Government disaster agency Afad said specialist teams are sifting through the rubble of dozens of collapsed homes as a result of flooding in the Black Sea regions Wednesday after heavy rains.
In the village of Babacay in the northern province of Sinop, 40 houses and two bridges were completely destroyed by the floods, according to the state news agency Anadolu.
The latest official death toll published today by Afad speaks of 44 deaths with nine other people in hospital.
