The US folk singer and songwriter Nanci Griffith is dead. The Grammy Award winner, known for songs like "Love at the Five and Dime" and "Trouble in the Fields", was 68 years old.
Her management announced the death of the native Texan on Friday without naming the cause of death.
It was Griffith's wish not to provide any further information for a week after her death, the "New York Times" quoted from the message.
With Griffith he lost one of his idols, wrote the musician Darius Rucker on Twitter.
Singing with her was his favorite thing.
Colleagues like Rosanne Cash and Suzy Bogguss also paid tribute to the musician.
With the album "Other Voices, Other Rooms" (1994) Griffith won the Grammy for the best contemporary folk album.
Guest stars include Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris and John Prine.
