"We are really upset, I cannot believe that we are really talking to you and that we are alive, given the situation we have experienced" says Tassaadit Meddour, whose house was greatly damaged by the fires that ravaged Kabylia.

"It is the solidarity of the Algerians that has triumphed" adds her husband Kadder Meddour.

The city of Tizi Ouzou, in northern Algeria is the most devastated by the fires.

But there are only three fires left in the region, according to a tweet from Algerian civil protection posted on Friday.

On the other hand, firefighters and volunteers continue to fight against 51 fires in 16 prefectures, in particular in Béjaïa, Jijel and El Taref, on the Tunisian border.

It is this last region, sparsely populated, which had the highest number of fire starts on Friday, according to the latest Civil Protection report.

In total, 76 fires were extinguished (out of the hundred identified Thursday across the country).

Faced with the tragedy, demonstrations of solidarity by civil society are being deployed on the ground and international aid is being organized.

At least 71 people have died since the fires started.
