Do you love hydrangeas?

Then you can display the flowers in your home all year round.

This is how they are dried.

Münster - Hydrangeas conjure a smile on the face of many garden fans, because their bloom seems to be endless in summer.

If gardeners want to keep this beauty for a longer period of time, it is worth

drying a few hydrangeas

.

With the right instructions, this can be done without any problems.

Drying hydrangeas: this is how you can make the flower last for a long time

The most popular water eater in the garden is probably the

hydrangea

. On hot days, the plant even needs water twice a day if it is not supposed to dry up. But gardening fans are happy to accept the amount of care required for hydrangeas, because a huge sea of flowers of purple, white, pink and blue hydrangeas await them as a reward. If no hydrangea thieves get in the way, the color is taken care of all summer long.

But at some point in summer comes the point when it becomes clear that even the hydrangea flowers will not be there forever.

Then gardening enthusiasts have the opportunity to

cut off the still plump blossoms and to preserve them

.

This works best, similar to thyme, by drying.

Because the flower heads are sometimes very fragile and need a particularly careful approach.

Drying hydrangeas: different options

The first step is to cut the flower heads.

As mentioned, this should take place at a time when the main flowering season of the hydrangea is coming to an end.

It is worth moving out into the garden in the morning and

choosing stable, firm-looking flower

specimens.

Then garden fans put on the scissors and leave the flower about 15 centimeters stalk.

This is particularly important with farmer's hydrangeas: If gardeners set the scissors too deep, in the worst case they cut off a new bud.

Then the plant no longer blooms at this point in the following year.

Now it's time to dry.

Hydrangeas can be dried in different ways:

  • hang upside down

  • dry with dehydrating agents

  • dry in a vase

Some methods are more complex than others, but they all have their advantages.

Drying hydrangeas: the methods explained

If you want it easy, you can simply hang your cut hydrangeas

upside down

.

To do this, garden fans remove all leaves from the stem and choose older petals when cutting them off.

Then they hang the individual flower stalks upside down in a warm, dry and dark place.

When the petals crackle, the flower is ready to serve as a decoration.

It gets a little more complex with

dehydrating agents

. According to the North Rhine-Westphalia Chamber of Agriculture, washing powder, borax or silica gel (silica gel) are suitable for this. Garden enthusiasts fill the product in a tightly sealable container on the ground and place the hydrangea on top. Then gardeners slowly fill in each cavity around the hydrangea with the product. The pressure of the agent must not destroy the flower. Garden enthusiasts then close the container and place it in a dark, warm place for about a week. The drying process is then completed.

Even

in a vase,

the hydrangeas dry out into beautiful decorative elements in the long term.

They lose some color in the process, but drying is easy.

Garden fans simply put the hydrangea in a vase with some water that will evaporate over time.

After about a week the water will be gone and the flowers will last.
