(ANSA) - MADRID, AUGUST 16 - The most serious forest fire among those recorded in Spain in recent days has burned "no less than 12,000 hectares" of land in the province of Avila, in the center of the Iberian country: this was announced today in media statements Iberians Juan Carlos Suárez-Quiñones, Councilor for the Environment of Castile and León, the region in which the fire took place. The fire, whose perimeter is about 80km, broke out on Saturday morning - a time when very high temperatures were recorded due to a wave of heat that hit Spain in recent days - near the towns of Navalacruz and Cepeda de la Mora. From the first indications, it seems that the trigger of the flames was the burning of a car. The authorities hope to be able to complete "the general stabilization of the "fire" perimeter in the next few hours, according to Suárez-Quiñones. The operations of the firefighting teams deployed on the spot, however, are proceeding "not without difficulty", said on Twitter JoséHernández, territorial delegate of Castile and León in the province of Avila.
