Johnny Depp plays a photographer in the new film "Minamata", but the start is a long time coming in the USA. He is systematically excluded, Depp complains - because of his private life.

Johnny Depp spoke up for the first time after the lost trial against the British "Sun".

In an interview with the British Sunday Times, Depp said he felt he was being “boycotted” by Hollywood and that he was being systematically excluded.

The occasion is the theatrical release of his new film »Minamata«, which premiered in 2020 at the Berlinale.

In it, the 58-year-old plays the photographer W. Eugene Smith, who reported on the mercury poisoning of a Japanese village community in the early 1970s.

The film opened in the UK and Ireland last week.

In the USA, the original start date was postponed in February for corona reasons - there has not been a new one since then.

Depp attributes this to his personal problems surrounding the court case against his former wife Amber Heard and the lost defamation suit against the publisher of the »Sun«.

Depp had sued the Sun publisher over an article alleging that he had physically abused his ex-wife, Amber Heard, 35.

Among other things, the newspaper had called him a "woman beater".

The judge responsible had decided, however, that the information in the text was "essentially true".

That is why Depp's lawsuit was dismissed.

Depp described the fact that he had fallen out of favor in Hollywood as the "absurdity of media mathematics".

He also criticized the film industry in the Sunday Times.

During the production of "Minamata" he looked "people in the eyes" and promised that we would not exploit them.

That the film would be respectful.

I think we kept our end of the bargain, but those who got in later should keep theirs too. "

At the beginning of November, Depp announced his withdrawal from the film series "Fantastic Beasts".

Warner Bros. had previously asked him, he wrote on Instagram at the time.

Depp indicated to the Sunday Times that it was a time of change for him.

"I'm going where I need to go to do all of this ... to bring things to light."
