Russian Daniil Medvedev won his fourth ATP Masters 1000 title, beating 23-year-old American Reilly Opelka 6-4, 6-3 at the 'National bank open' played on the hard courts of Toronto (Canada).
He is the first Russian to win the tournament after the triumph of Marat Safin in 2000. Medvedev (number 2 in the world) prevailed on the young American (32/0 in the ranking before this tournament), who played his first final in a Master 1000, after an hour and 25 minutes of play.
"With Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal playing, it seemed like an unattainable result. Now I have four wins in five finals, which is a good score. I'm just happy. I want to achieve more," Medvedev said in an interview after the match.
