(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 17 - Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, head of the Taliban political office, has left Doha to lead a delegation for Kandahar. Fontitalebane confirmed this to ANSA. Baradar will meet with the other leaders of the group, including Maulvi Haibtullah, to discuss the formation of the new government in Afghanistan. For Baradar, co-founder of the Taliban movement together with Mullah Omar, it is a question of returning to Afghanistan after 20 years. Since 2018, after being released from Pakistan, where he was detained, Baradar has led the Taliban negotiating team in Qatar.
The meeting of Taliban leaders for the formation of the new government will be held in Kandahar, their spiritual capital.
