The new eco-test shows which branded spaghetti it is better to refrain from buying.

Germany - Good spaghetti dishes are not only cooked in Italy, noodles can also be found in almost every kitchen in Germany.

However, traces of the weed killer glyphosate have now been found in some branded pasta, as the new results of the eco-test * show.

In addition to some branded products, the noodles are also owned by large supermarkets.

In the test, 20 brands of pasta from conventional and organic cultivation were examined in the laboratory.

Traces of the potentially harmful pesticide glyphosate were found in 12 of the 15 conventional brands - including spaghetti from the Barilla brand and the own brands of Rewe, Kaufland and Aldi Süd.

The organic products, on the other hand, all received the top rating of “very good”.

Be careful when buying spaghetti - Öko-Test detects traces of glyphosate in products

Despite the results of the test report *, there is no need to worry about most conventional spaghetti brands: They mostly score with “good” or “satisfactory”. Consumers should only be careful with two brands of pasta: The spaghetti products from the Edeka and Penny own brands did not pass the test. In addition to traces of the weed killer, traces of mold toxins and mineral oils could also be detected in the laboratory. Above all, the content of mineral oils in the penny noodles is much too high.

The examined organic products proved to be clearly free of examined pollutants. Some of the products rated “very good” can be found, for example, in the organic range from Alnatura, Dennree, Rapunzel or dm. But also the spaghetti of the brand D'antelli from Aldi Nord and Schlemmerliebling were able to convince with good values in the test. With just a few ingredients, delicious spaghetti recipes can be cooked carefree.

Öko-Test is a consumer magazine that regularly carries out laboratory tests on daily consumer goods. According to his own statement, no consideration is given to industry, the state or advertising customers. Critics are often outraged that the tests are stricter than the legal requirements when the products were launched on the market. It can happen that even products that comply with the legal framework in principle are classified as "unsatisfactory" after the examination.
