According to a Bloomberg report, a Texas federal jury ordered Apple to pay $ 300 million into Optis Wireless's coffers following the infringement of five LTE technology patents. Optis Wireless Technology is part, together with Optis Cellular Technology, Unwired Planet and Unwired Planet International, of the Texan company PanOptis. It is a group that does not produce patents but buys them around the world, when the development of a particular technology is taking hold, so as to 'hope' that the licenses will be infringed. Regarding the patents for LTE communication misused by Apple, the property was held, prior to the purchase in favor of Optis Wireless, by Samsung, LG and Panasonic. The lawsuit between the two companies dates back to last August, when Optis requested payment of over $ 500 million for the infringement.

Apple had opposed it, now obtaining the acceptance of the appeal, which brought the fine from 506 million to 300 million dollars. The August 13 ruling did not clear Apple but re-examined the amount payable to Optis Wireless Technology. The Cupertino giant, in responding to the decision of the Texas jury, said: "We thank the jury for their time, but we are disappointed with the verdict and we intend to appeal again. Optis does not manufacture products and its only business is that of suing companies that use the patents they accumulate. We will continue to defend ourselves against their attempts to obtain unreasonable payments. "
