The government of Sao Paulo has announced that it has authorized the holding of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in the Brazilian megalopolis "for 100% of the public", but with the obligation to present proof of at least one dose of vaccination against Covid-19.
The governor, Joao Doria, added that, from 1 November, spectators are expected to return to football stadiums as well.
The Formula 1 GP - according to what Doria told local media - should take place on the weekend of 6 and 7 November, but there is the possibility that it will be postponed to the following weekend, 12 and 13 November, to exchange the date with Mexico. About 40,000 tickets have already been sold for the event. As for football, however, the matches have been held without fans since March 2020. Since then, the leagues have gone through interruptions and games behind closed doors.
According to data released by the authorities, 91.7% of adults over 18 have been vaccinated with at least the first dose in the state of Sao Paulo, the most populous in Brazil.
Compared to the total population, the percentage is 69%. Administration of the second dose of the vaccine only reached 28.2% of the adult population.
