What they miss the most is “seeing all the friends”, Gonzalo (11) and Dante (9) agree, at the entrance of the Hipólito Yrigoyen School No. 26, in the San Telmo neighborhood of Buenos Aires.

After 521 days, this Tuesday full presence returned for the 290,000 students of public and private primary schools in the City.

They will no longer be separated into bubbles, but each classroom will have all the students of the course.

For the Avellaneda brothers, however, it

will be the first day of school since March 2020

.

“We couldn't bring them in earlier,” Angie explains.

The families chat on the sidewalk of the typical school building from the late 70s. “I am an oncology patient and I have undergone a transplant.

When classes began, he had not yet received the vaccine and

we were afraid that the boys could get it at school,

”the woman continues.

When he received the first dose of Sputnik V, he considered bringing them back, but decided to wait for the second dose to arrive.

"It was a long time of exposure in groups, in the street and at school,

just for three hours of face-to-face class

," he thought.

I helped them so that they could follow the virtual classes, but while Gonzalo had them on Zoom every week, Gonzalo only received notes by mail.

The second dose never came, but I feel like they can't go on without face-to-face classes.

We will risk it.

I explained to them that they take great care of themselves, because one thing is to be at home and another with so many people.

But the boys need to see their classmates and distance classes are not the same ”, he tells

Gonzalo hopes they call sixth grade without too much sleep.

“Before the pandemic,

I never thought I would miss coming to school

.

But I am re happy because I return to meet my friends and have physical education.

The hours of sport are the ones that I like the most ”, he says.

At his side, he is accompanied by a friend from the course, Maurizio.

“As we live nearby, in Avellaneda, I could see it in these months.

But the rest of the boys in the class, no.

It's going to be the first time, ”adds the 11-year-old.

His brother, Dante, was not so lucky.

"The truth is that I hardly remember the other colleagues," he says.

The city of Buenos Aires, unlike the Province, organized a return to the classrooms in a staggered manner.

On August 4, the last two years of high schools and technical high schools returned.

On August 9, the rest of the students of both levels.

This August 17, it was the turn of the primary level students, special education and non-university upper level students, adult schools and vocational training centers.

All that remains is for the initial level students to return to the usual routine on August 23, but until that day the youngest continue to attend in person with the same modality they had before the holidays.
