Three new specializations launched by the Faculty of Health Sciences at Damascus University at the beginning of the next academic year include “Prosthetics and Orthotics”, “Diagnostics and Radiation Therapy” and “Clinical Psychology”, with its move to its new headquarters in the Baramkeh Faculties cluster within a complete and independent building after it was occupying place in the College of Medicine.

The college’s move to its new location, according to a statement by Dr. Zuhair Marmar, the dean of the college, to SANA, comes three years after its opening, in parallel with the expansion and the opening of more new majors, indicating that the college includes qualitative majors such as “speech and language orthotics, audiology, and psychomotor therapy,” which meet people’s needs. Disabled and war wounded.

Dr. Marmar explains that the duration of study in the aforementioned specializations is four years, during which students are accepted according to the general comparison that will be announced by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. At the end of his studies, the student obtains a degree that allows him to work as an independent therapist or within hospitals and public health centers.

Dr. Marmar points out that the college receives annually in each department between 30 to 35 male and female students for one academic year, i.e. specific numbers to maintain the level and quality of education provided, allowing the graduation of qualified cadres of high quality.

Dr. Samer Mohsen, Vice Dean of the College of Health Sciences for Administrative Affairs and Student Affairs and a teacher at the College of Medicine, pointed out the importance of shedding light on the specializations included in the college and helping to spread a new culture related to graduating specialists to complement the work of doctors, whether in providing a rehabilitation service or diagnostic assistance or in any aspect From the medical, auxiliary or rehabilitative aspects that support the profession of medicine, allowing the provision of treatment and support to persons with disabilities and the provision of services and a supportive environment for them to enable their effective and independent participation in all aspects of life, according to international standards.

Abdul Rahman Al-Aboudi, Head of the Administrative Board of the College of Health Sciences, said: We are currently completing the exams for the second semester, and our move to the new headquarters was easy and encouraging for us, while the second-year student, Maryam Saraqibi, indicated that she is studying the specialization of speech and language assessment, which aims to graduate specialists who are able to evaluate and develop treatment plans. And the appropriate rehabilitation for people who need speech and language services and who have a disorder in any of the communication components, language, speech, voice, swallowing, neurolinguistic disorders and fluency, and for all ages.

It is noteworthy that the Faculty of Health Sciences at Damascus University was established by Decree No. 273 of 2018.
