(ANSA) - OTTAWA, 18 AUG - After almost 1,000 days of legal disputes and diplomatic brawls, the new round of hearings in a Canadian court for the examination of the possible extradition to the United States of Meng Wanzhou, also known like Lady Huawei.
The woman, the financial director of Huawei as well as the daughter of its founder and president Ren Zhengfei, was arrested in December 2018 on a mandate from the United States, who would like to prosecute her for bank fraud and conspiracy to alleged commercial relations of her company, through a subsidiary, with Iran.
British Columbia Supreme Court Chief Justice Heather Holmes said October 21 would set a date to deliver her sentence.
If transferred to the United States for trial and found guilty, she could face a sentence of over 30 years in prison. Today Meng Wanzhou lives on probation in Canada, and is constantly monitored by an electronic bracelet. (HANDLE).
