Oleksandr Petrakov, 64, is the new Ukraine coach, appointed ad interim by the football association for the qualifying matches for the 2022 World Cup after the end of Andriy Shevchenko's contract. The former striker coached the national team for five years, taking it up to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 and left his position as planned at the end of the contract, in early August. Over the past ten years, Petrakov has led various Ukrainian youth teams and in 2019 he won the Under-20 World Cup. nor his financial condition. He will make his bench debut in Kazakhstan on 1 September next,before hosting the holders of France in Kiev three days later.
The president of the UAF, Andriy Pavelko, was counting on Sergei Rebrov to succeed Shevchenko, but the former manager of Dynamo Kiev and Ferencvaros has meanwhile joined the Emirati club of Al-Ain.
