Spanish justice has decided to lift the curfew introduced last month in Barcelona and several towns in Catalonia

The Catalans find a little freedom.

A month ago, the Catalan government instituted a curfew in 148 municipalities, which was initially due to end on Thursday.

The regional executive then asked for an extension of this curfew but in view of the epidemic situation, the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) considered that it was not necessary to extend it in the 148 municipalities. .

Only 19 of them are still affected by this curfew.

An incidence rate lower than the national average

Like the rest of Spain, Catalonia, the epicenter of a fifth wave of Covid that started in June, has seen the number of new cases drop sharply in recent weeks.

As of Wednesday, the incidence rate was 328 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, lower than the national average of 378 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the Ministry of Health.

In Barcelona, this rate even drops to 261 cases which motivated local authorities to lift this restriction put in place to counter the Delta variant which was raging in Catalonia last month, especially among adolescents and young people under 30 years old. .

Vigilance remains essential

These good results can be explained by the efficiency of the deployment of the vaccination campaign in the country where 64% of the population has a complete vaccination schedule, well above the EU average set at 55.5%.

The country has also been able to count on the extension of vaccination to young people under 30 years of age.
