The shock video of L214 on a pig farm in Annay-sur-Serein (Yonne), broadcast this Thursday, August 19 on the site of the animal defense association, moved the state services.
The operator has been the subject of a formal notice by the Departmental Directorate of Employment, Labor, Solidarity and Population Protection (DDETSPP).
Following our requests on Wednesday, the departmental prefecture told us that "non-conformities (were) noted concerning the killing procedures and the actions to be implemented to reduce the risk of tail-biting
(when an animal bites the tail of a congener)
”.
These observations were made in June, after an unexpected inspection by the veterinary services of the DDETSPP, on the basis of a report filed in February by Grégory, the whistleblower who filmed the images broadcast by the association for the defense of animals, at the gendarmerie.

The prefecture communicates in response to a complaint for "serious abuse", brought Wednesday by L214 to the prosecutor of the Republic of Yonne.
The association's requests have therefore been heard and the prefecture indicates that a "new inspection will be carried out to verify the compliance of the breeding".
L214 requests new measures
By publishing these shocking images, which we unveil this Thursday, Grégory, the former employee at the origin of the procedure, denounced mistreatment and multiple regulatory non-conformities in this pigsty.
He pointed out, among other things, the cutting of piglets' tails and "slamming" (killing so-called non-viable piglets by knocking them violently).
These practices are, according to his testimony, common in the breeding in question, whereas the law authorizes it only in an exceptional way.

L214 took advantage of this video to ask the Ministry of Agriculture, in line with the ban on live castration for piglets already enacted for January 1, 2022, to stop "breakdown" and cutting of piglets tails.
