Are the speculations correct or is the resolution much easier?
Here are the answers.
Identity card: This is what the last digits stand for
First of all, it is important to know that the ID number is made up of three parts.
The last number is the check digit.
This number is important in order to be able to identify possible counterfeits.
A special mathematical system can then use this number to find out whether the specified personnel number is correct or not.
The machine-readable zone, which can be found on the back of the ID card, contains four check digits.
The first three complete the respective sub-areas.
The check digits can be found in the first and second sections of the ID.
The last check digit is the overall check digit.
Identity card: These are the three areas
The first part of the identity card begins with the combination IDD - ID stands for identity card and D for the country code of the Federal Republic of Germany.
This is followed by the document number, which ends with the check digit.
In the second part, the date of birth is given with a check digit, the validity date with a check digit, the country code and the version number.
This sub-area is completed with the so-called overall check digit.
The surname and first name are stored in the third and last line.
No more check digits follow here.
