Iss: 82.4% positive swabs of the Delta variant in the last 45 days

In Italy in the last 45 days (3 July-16 August 2021) 82.4% of the sequenced swabs tested positive for the Delta variant, while the Alpha was down, stopping at 8.0%. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 20 - In Italy in the last 45 days (3 July-16 August 2021) 82.4% of the sequenced swabs were positive for the Delta variant, while Alfa was down, stopping at 8.0% . New cases of infection caused by the delta variant have been reported in all Regions / PPAA. The data are contained in the seventh ISS bulletin "Prevalence and distribution of variants of SARS-CoV-2 of interest for public health in Italy".


    The frequency of cases caused by the gamma variant (lineage P.1) is also decreasing, with a greater diffusion in some Italian Regions / PPAA.


   Most of the cases of infection caused by variants of SARS-CoV-2 of health interest detected by the Covid-19 Integrated Surveillance System, "were contracts on the Italian territory", reads the new ISS report, and only "6.6 % of the infections associated with the Delta variant and 4% associated with the Alpha variant were contracted abroad ".


   In the last 45 days, 7,576 Delta variant Covid cases (93.4%) are indigenous against 535 (6.6%) imported. For Alfa lavariante 748 autochthonous cases (96%) and 31 imported (4%), while the 144 cases positive for Covid from the Kappa variant were all born on Italian territory. (HANDLE).
