To find out which is the best toothpaste, Stiftung Warentest examined 115 products.

A distinction was made in different categories.

Berlin - Toothpaste is used by many consumers at least twice a day.

The question quickly arises: What is the best toothpaste for adults on the market?

Stiftung Warentest has now tested 115 products in different categories.

First of all, Stiftung Warentest differentiates between the classic universal toothpaste, sensitive products and toothpaste for shiny, whiter teeth.

The categories are: caries prophylaxis with fluoride, packaging, removal of discoloration and declaration and advertising messages.

Stiftung Warentest: You should pay attention to this with toothpaste

When it comes to finding the right toothpaste, it is always worth taking a look at the ingredients.

According to Stiftung Warentest, the most important ingredient in toothpaste is the active ingredient fluoride.

This offers the most effective protection against tooth decay.

Accordingly, the active ingredient should be present in a high concentration.

Another important point is the correct abrasion.

The surfactants and cleaning agents in the toothpaste ensure that unsightly discolorations, for example from coffee, black tea or cigarettes, are removed.

How much abrasion is contained in the toothpaste, however, is not indicated on the packaging.

Since Stiftung Warentest can track the size and quantity in the laboratory, this was also part of the test.

Stiftung Warentest - These are the test winners for sensitive teeth

Toothpaste with a high level of abrasion is not recommended for people with exposed tooth necks and sensitive teeth. Stiftung Warentest was able to find the best toothpaste with a low level of abrasion: Sensodyne MultiCare Original, with the quality rating “good” (1.8). The test winner is priced at 2.99 euros. The toothpaste is particularly convincing in the categories of caries prophylaxis with fluoride and packaging - it was rated “very good” (1.0). On the other hand, the removal of discoloration scores “satisfactory” (3.0).

Kaufland's discounter product was convincing among the sensitive toothpastes.

The toothpaste from K-classic dental Sensitive received an overall rating of “good” (1.9).

In terms of price, the product is priced at just 0.63 euros and is the cheapest test winner.

The top grade “very good” (1.0) was given for caries prophylaxis with fluoride.

Only when removing discoloration does the toothpaste score with a “satisfactory” (3.2).

Stiftung Warentest - These are the test winners for universal toothpaste and whiter teeth

The best universal toothpaste is called Dental Delight Polar Punch and wins with an overall rating of “very good” (1.2).

This toothpaste can score with the correct fluoride content.

However, there are also points of criticism here: Both the packaging, the declaration and advertising messages were only moderately convincing - there was only the grade “good” (2.1).

The test winner is priced at 1.95 euros.

First place for the best toothpaste with

The white award is shared by two winners.

With the quality rating “very good” (1.1): Blend-a-med 3D White Luxe Glamorous White and Signal White Now.

In terms of price, both cost around 2 euros.

Only the former was able to convince in all categories with the top grade “very good”.

Signal White Now had to be content with the packaging with a rating of “good” (2.1).
