The Thai authorities have approved the extension of the permitted visiting destinations for international tourism in the country, having so far been restricted to the island of Phuket only due to the corona crisis.

Only vaccinated visitors were allowed to enter Phuket under the Phuket Sandbox program, and since its implementation on July 1, more than 22,000 tourists have entered the island.

Of these, only 62 people were found positive for Corona (0.3 percent of those entering) and none of them were from Israel.

In light of the success of the pilot, Thailand has now decided to allow entry into other popular tourist areas in the south of the country, after a week-long stay in Phuket.

The destinations are among the favorites of the Israeli audience: Ko Phangan, Ko Samui, Ko Tao, Krabi, Ko Phi Phi and Kao Lak.

According to the Thai Ministry of Tourism, tourists will be able to move to one of the additional destinations after receiving a second negative corona test result, on the Friday after landing in Phuket, and using defined means of transportation that have received special approval.

Transit to Koh Samui Island and the islands adjacent to it is permitted by domestic flight only.

There is also a requirement that the stay at the hotel in the additional destination be booked and paid for in advance, as well as a third corona check on the 12th day of stay in Thailand.

Dov Kalman, representative of the Thai Tourist Board in Israel: "The announcement of the opening of new areas in Thailand is especially relevant for the Israeli tourist. In 2016-2019, the island of Ko Phangan was the second most sought after destination by Israelis (Bangkok was the first destination, Phuket the fifth destination). It is certain that as a result of the decision, more Israelis will decide to spend their holiday and autumn holidays in Phuket and Copenhagen

.

"The additional easing of the country's travel restrictions will help us maintain this respectable place."
