(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 21 - ANSA) - ROME, AUG 21 - Violent clashes today in Melbourne between demonstrators and law enforcement agencies after the extension to the entire Australian state of Victoria of the anti Covid strike that until now was only in force in the capital. In the past 24 hours, Victoria has registered 77 new coronavirus cases. Authorities deployed over 700 additional policemen to Melbourne to contain the protest, which was attended by hundreds of people, and in some cases - reports the Guardian - officers used pepper spray against the crowd. Also today, thousands of people also protested in the Queensland capital - Brisbane - against the lockdown and the anti Covid vaccination program.
In Sydney, the capital of New South Wales, police deployed over 1,500 additional officers and banned taxis from entering the city center until 3pm today.
