According to the British government, seven people were killed in the crowd around the airport in Kabul.
All dead are Afghan civilians.
Recordings from the night show women trying to get onto the airport premises over a barbed wire wall.
According to local media reports, several children are said to have been separated from their families in the recent chaos.
The situation at the airport in the Afghan capital Kabul has been chaotic for around a week.
Every day more and more desperate people are trying to flee and are hoping for a place on an airplane after the militant-fundamentalist Taliban came to power in Afghanistan.
Currently only evacuation flights start from the airport.
Meanwhile, after the deadly crush, the Taliban are apparently trying to restore order around the airport.
According to eyewitness reports, the crowd prevented the crowds and created queues outside the airport gates, so that while there was long queues early on Sunday morning, there was no confusion or violence.
An Afghan refugee lawyer in Australia warned that the Taliban wanted to take advantage of the situation.
Shukufa Tahiri, Afghan Refugee Attorney
“There are big and widespread concerns that the Taliban will be putting on
a show for the international cameras during this transition period. But their regime and brutality have not changed. We must not forget that the same group is responsible for suicide bombings and explosions in Kabul and other parts of the country. You are responsible for massacres and targeted killings. There can be no promises at the moment, no international guarantees. And no pressure can be put on the Taliban right now to make sure they keep their promises while they set up their so-called government. "
Eyewitnesses report that despite the extreme heat and chaos, many people continue to come to the airport entrances.
The German embassy and other diplomatic missions in Kabul warned against visiting Kabul airport on Saturday.
In the meantime, the Bundeswehr has relocated two helicopters to Kabul to bring people at risk from Kabul to the airport.
The Bundeswehr has now brought more than 2,100 people to safety with 18 evacuation flights.
