At first it was a lively evening: around 60,000 spectators celebrated in Central Park under the motto “We love NY”.

The concert was intended to pay tribute to the fight against the corona pandemic.

Around 80 percent of the tickets for the concert, which was broadcast by CNN, were free.

Visitors had to prove at least their first vaccination against the virus at the entrance.

In view of the increasing number of cases because of the Delta variant, however, there was criticism that the concert would come too early.

In the end, the celebration did not last as long as planned: due to storms and the approaching hurricane »Henri«, the concert had to be canceled halfway through the planned duration.

Singer Jennifer Hudson stayed dry and delighted the audience.

Musician Jon Batiste was happy about the good atmosphere on Saturday.

He was lucky that the heavy rain did not prevent his performance.

Unlike singer Barry Manilow: He was on stage in the middle of a song when the microphone was turned off and a loudspeaker announcement asked the concert-goers to leave.

"I was so disappointed," Manilow told CNN.

"It was a wonderful, wonderful experience until it started to rain." The performances of Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith and reggaeton star Maluma also fell into the water.

Lightning flashed across the sky and thunder could be heard as people streamed out of the park.

"Henri" moved towards the east coast of the USA on Saturday and is forecast to hit land on Sunday afternoon in Long Island, New York State.

The meteorologists predict floods, heavy rain and flash floods.

In the metropolis of New York, too, power outages and floods are expected in the suburbs.
